Using the Salvador Dalí artwork Duel in the sun (1973), a graph, and variables selected by AMP community members as parameters, Duel Duel Revolution stages the showdowns and reverie born of shared music landscapes. The work considers the choreography of video game combat, the earnestness of underground dance music, and the spectator sport of arcade performance as it finds expression within and outside of preprogrammed movement.
This work was created through Alternative Motion Project's Audience Create-a-Dance initiative. As part of the company's mission to connect and empower artists and audiences, Alternative Motion Project invited community members to participate in the creative process of the work by completing a five-question survey provided by the choreographer. The results, as voted on by 38 participants, served as the framework of Duel Duel Revolution.
